Welcome to Digital Universal Resources And Networking (DURAN) or DuranSmith.Com. Your small business and home office IT Professional. The main purpose of this web site is to promote my services and to share information. I have personally designed and published this site as an example of one of my services. Custom designed applications and web sites using: 3Dfx, Access, Excel, Flash MX, FrontPage, Java, MySQL, PHP, SQL, SQL Server, Visual Basic, and Word. I was first introduced to computers in 1982 during my senior year in high school math class. Back then it was a simple task of cat and mouse, make the circle follow the square on the screen (black & white). After attending two years of community college I enlisted in the United States Navy. The Navy trained me as an Interior Communications specialist, which gave me 4 years of hands on experience working with sophisticated military electronic systems which included - communication, security and navigational systems. In 1987 I was honorably discharged from the Navy and my wife, Sandy, and I moved to Charlotte North Carolina. It was shortly there after that I bought my first personal computer - a screaming 286 with two megabytes of RAM or was that four? I went to work in the electronic security industry and started dabbling in the computer world. My experience in the electronic security industry has afforded me the opportunity to design, sell, install, manage, maintain and repair some of the most sophisticated computerized electronic security systems in the world (Uncle Sam being one of my primary clients). I believe it was in the early 90's, when computers really started taking off, that I started my own part-time business helping people with their computer issues. Since that time, I have developed a reputation as being an expert with computers. My expertise spans hardware platforms, operating systems, languages and applications. Please take a look at my Services page for more information. It was just last year that I decided to make DURAN a full time occupation. I currently reside in the Charlotte metropolitan area with my wife of 18 years, Sandy, my two daughters, Courtney and Brittney (11 and 8) and Amorette Nicole born May 17th, 2002 - 2:40pm, 7.0 lbs, 20 inches.
